Troon has a long and proud history, Here are just some of the major dates in the history of the town.
1812 - Scotland's first railway - Troon to Kilmarnock - opened by Duke of Portland
1860 - First Troon shipyard opened
1878 - Royal Troon Golf Club founded by a group of local enthusisats
1919 - Charles K. Marr died, leaving his fortune to benefit the town of Troon
1935 - Marr College opened
