Lucky escape for crew of Troon trawler hit by cargo ship

The four-man crew of a Troon-based fishing boat have had a lucky escape after they collided with a 2,500 tonne cargo vessel off the Isle of Arran.

The crew of the Spes Bona V trawler put out an emergency call to the Clyde Coastguard at 1.10am on Wednesday 27th January, after the boat was struck by a cargo ship called the Leeswig as it trawled for prawns.

No-one was injured in the incident but the Spes Bona was damaged.
